Simple Care Tips to Keep Your Hardwood Floors Beautiful

Whether you are still considering whether or not to install hardwood floors in your home or you already have them in place, caring for them properly is a crucial part of helping them stay beautiful for decades. It is not hard to care for hardwood floors – in fact quite the opposite. Here are some of the basics:

  • Sweep your hardwood floors often with a soft, fine bristle broom to remove and dust or debris.
  • Vacuum your hardwood floors once or twice a week but use a soft brush attachment if possible to avoid unnecessary scratches.
  • Excessive liquid is bad for hardwood floors. If you spill liquid on your hardwood floor clean it up as soon as possible. Hardwood floors are tough and handle spills just fine, but if excess moisture is left to seep into the seams of your hardwood floors the results can be disastrous.
  • Never use a very wet mop to clean your hardwood floors. A slightly damp one should do the job perfectly.
  • Consider using area rugs in very high traffic areas.
  • Don’t drag heavy furniture across a hardwood floor. Invest in a few “gliding pads” which will not only protect your hardwood floor from accidental scratches but make the furniture easier to move as well.
  • Before using any treatment or stain on your hardwood floor consult with a professional first to make sure it is suitable
