So you have picked out your new flooring and the installers will be arriving in a few days to start work. Wonderful. There are however a few simple things that you, as the homeowner, can do to make the whole process much easier for everyone involved:

Clear the Area – It is going to be next to impossible for your flooring installers to get started right away to either remove your old flooring or install the new stuff if they walk into a room that is still chock-a-block full of furniture. Not only should you remove the furniture from the room though, to be safe remove any long curtains as well. And if you want your new flooring to be extended into any cupboards or closets in the room remember to clear them out as well.

Door Considerations – There are occasions when it may be necessary for doors to be removed in order to facilitate flooring installation, especially if your new flooring will be higher than the old. To save time it helps to find out from the flooring installers ahead of time if that will be necessary in your case, so that you can take care of removing them before the installers arrive.

Clear a Space for the New Stuff – You will also need to clear a space for the installers to store, and cut, the new flooring. In addition some flooring materials – especially hardwood – needs to be acclimatized to its new surroundings for a while. So your flooring may be arriving a day or so ahead of the actual installation date and you will certainly need a place to put it.

Talk to Your Installers – Before any work begins make the time to have a quick chat with your flooring installers to ensure that everyone is on the same page about every aspect of the job and make sure that the flooring that has been brought along is what you ordered.
