Here are some of the exotics that are growing in popularity and a basic explanation of their unique characteristics:

Brazilian Cherry – Brazilian Cherry – or Jatoba as it also sometimes known – is a very hard hardwood that is usually a beautiful reddish brown wood, with an interlocking grain and a golden luster. It adds a sense of warmth to a room, making it the perfect choice for a large living room.

Lapacho – Another exceptionally hard hardwood the Lapacho tree is also sometimes known as the Brazilian Walnut. Lapacho hardwood flooring’s coloring ranges from olive brown to near black, though it can have lighter or darker markings that are sharply separated from the yellower sapwood.

Cabreuva – Cabreuva offers a unique aesthetic appearance that can add charm to any room it is installed in. The sapwood of cabreuva is pale brown while the heartwood is purplish-red in color meaning that the flooring planks can be found in all manner of unique hues.

Tiger Wood – For those looking for a hardwood flooring option that is a little lighter in color Tiger Wood is well worth looking at. The sapwood of tigerwood is brownish-white to dirty gray, while the heartwood is reddish-brown to light golden-brown in color which can impart a lighter, airier feeling when laid in a smaller room.
