Choosing a Carpet Color

If you have decided that it is time for new carpeting you have a lot of decisions to make (texture, manufacturer, stain resistance) but most people’s first consideration when they begin shopping for new carpeting is color and/or pattern.

Carpet color choice is very much a personal decision, after all your entire home, including its décor, is just as unique as you are. However there are some basic things you can keep in mind when you visit the carpet showroom that should make narrowing down your myriad of color choices to one final selection a little easier.

One of the things you have to determine is how you want to make the room being decorated to feel to those entering it for the first time. Do you want it to be warm and cozy or cooler and have an airier feeling? Is it a small room that could benefit from appearing more spacious or a large room that looks a little bare and uninviting right now? What colors will match or complement the furniture you have in place in the room? The right choice of carpet color can address all of these issues.

Neutrals and beiges are always a very popular choice as they can lend themselves to almost any décor and complement the look of all different types of furniture from the darkest traditional wood dining table and chairs to trendy and futuristic looking living room sets. However if you want to be a little bolder with your carpet color choices there are plenty of ways to do so effectively.

To make a room feel warmer a carpet in the fire family works very well. This encompasses shades from yellowish orange to bluish reds. On the flip side any color that might make one think of water – light blues to yellow greens should impart a cooler ambiance in a room.

For a room that gets a great deal of natural light keep in mind that a dark carpet will absorb and dull some of that brightness where a lighter choice will magnify the light in a room. Light colors also tend to make a room feel more spacious, great for a smaller room but if the room already feels a little cavernous (as many rooms in older homes can) a warmer, darker shade will instantly make it feel more cozy and inviting.

Of course, the way a carpet looks in the showroom is one thing, how it will appear in your living room can be quite another. One of the great advantages of shopping at Aladdin Carpet and Floors is that they will come to you. If you schedule a free in home estimate not only will you have an immediate idea of how much recarpeting your room is going to cost but samples can also be viewed in the very environment you are considering having them installed in.
